Adventure Time: Distant Lands takes viewers to the far-flung corners of Ooo, telling imaginative stories starring new characters and familiar faces alike.
Its second episode, Obsidian, explores the tumultuous relationship between Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum through a series of flashbacks, framed by a story set in a heretofore unexplored royal domain, the Glass Kingdom.
Equal parts personal and mythic, Obsidian deftly blends Adventure Time’s fantasy setting with a deep, emotional exploration of two of its most beloved characters.
Like all of Adventure Time, music is core to the experience of Obsidian. Stand-out tracks such as “Monster,” “Woke Up,” “See Through,” and “Eternity With You” feature vocals from the special’s main cast and offer a kaleidoscope of styles and moods: You’ll find everything from punk-rock powerfests to soulful duets on offer here, all expertly crafted with passion.
