Ghost of Tsushima Box Art by Mitch Mohrhauser is a Game Maker’s Sketchbook 2021 Official Selection for Impact representing Ghost of Tsushima developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The box art for Ghost of Tsushima was our chance to convey important symbols from the game in a single image. Most of it symbolizing Jin's journey from Samurai honor to adopting Ghost tactics: The approaching storm, Jin's conflicted gaze at his samurai mask, the burning leaves, and the palette of black and white. It became a monumental task that couldn't have been achieved without the crucial help of Concept Art Lead Ian Jun Wei Chiew and Creative Director Jason Connell. It was greatly rewarding to have the opportunity to paint something a little more illustrative for our game's cover art.
Co-founded by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), creative production company iam8bit, and communications firm, fortyseven (47), the Game Maker’s Sketchbook is a juried exhibition with aims to highlight and celebrate all forms of art related to the craft of making games.
All proceeds from print sales go to support the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of the interactive arts.
The mission of the AIAS is to promote and advance the worldwide interactive entertainment community; recognize outstanding achievements in the interactive arts and sciences; and host an annual awards show, the D.I.C.E. Awards, to enhance awareness of the interactive art form. Other special programs led by the AIAS include the AIAS Foundation which has sponsored hundreds of scholars and mentees, hosted education summits (including Amplifying New Voices), launched the first game industry 5k race, and built a growing database of mentors ready to help the future generations of industry leaders.
